Talk on the African continent is that Mamelodi Sundowns are among the title favourites to win this season’s CAF Champions League, a challenge defender Khuliso Mudau says the players are embracing.

It’s been seven years since the Brazilians were crowned champions of this competition, even after impressing in the group stages only to fade in the latter stages.

Ahead of facing Al Ahly on Saturday in Group B, Mudau adds this is the dominant discussion in the dressing room.

"As players we sit amongst each other and speak about every tournament that we play. Every game that we play is important and we are going to make sure that we win every match," he said.

Sundowns have been knocked out in the quarterfinals for two successive seasons, and Mudau vows to attempt to change that.

"I think for the past four and five seasons we were knocked out on the quarterfinals so this time we are going to make sure that we reach the semi-finals. The goal is to win the Champions League," he added.

For his efforts, Mudau is one of nine Sundowns players selected as part of the 35-man Bafana Bafana preliminary squad ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Liberia this month.

He’d love to see more of his teammates called up too.

"I think every player would love to be on the Bafana Bafana camp because we are all working hard. It's a good thing that they chose nine players from Sundowns but I think they can choose more," he concluded.
