Premier Soccer League clubs typically add players to their roster effective July 1 in the lead up to the new campaign with that period running until the end of August but has recently been extended to mid-September.
But with Sundowns having qualified for the World Cup this has opened the door for this application to SAFA.
It’s understood the request has been tentatively approved by the local motherbody, however it does still need to be ratified by FIFA with official dates around when exactly Sundowns can officially sign new players.
The Brazilians face Ulsan HD of South Korea in their opening game of the newly expanded tournament in Orlando, Florida with clashes against Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense to follow in Group F.
Should the request be accepted, as expected, Downs will arrive in America with all their new recruits available for coach Miguel Cardoso to select.
It’s not yet clear which players Sundowns are targeting at this stage, but FIFA is allowing national associations of teams taking part in the Club World Cup to open a special transfer window between 1-10 June.
Sundowns will play their final Betway Premiership match on 27 May and the CAF Champions League final on 1 June if they beat Al Ahly over two legs in the semi-finals this month.
The Egyptian giants are also heading to the Club World Cup.
