Mamelodi Sundowns continue to bolster technical team

Mamelodi Sundowns are refusing to rest on their laurels and have announced the addition of Mathias Zangenberg as their new "head of physical performance."

Zangenberg, originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, is an experienced conditioning coach, who previously worked with Danish Superligaen sides Aarhus GF – where Bafana Bafana winger Gift Links currently plays, Nordsjælland, and Lyngby BK.

His appointment comes shortly after the club sealed their record-extending sixth successive Premiership title, with seven games to spare in the season, as they look to take it a notch up in their pursuit of a second CAF Champions League crown and potentially a historic treble.

However, he will not only assist the men's first team but also the largely successful Ladies' team, who are undisputed, defending Hollywoodbets Super League champions as well as 2021 CAF Women's Champions League winners.

According to a statement released by the club on Thursday, Zangenberg will be "working across the club to align the methodology of physical training of the Senior Team, Ladies Team, and Academy teams."

During a 12-year stint with Nordsjæland, he also gained valuable UEFA Champions League and Europa League experience, and recently served as Ghana's conditioning coach during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

"His knowledge, experience, and work ethic will assist in getting the first team to the next level and make a clear strategy for

physical training and injury prevention throughout the entire club," said The Brazilians' sporting director, Flemming Berg.
