Singh determined to seize Bafana’s opportunity

Singh was last selected to Bafana in August 2021, during former head coach Hugo Broos’ first few months in charge, and he last played against Zimbabwe in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. 

At the time, he was also struggling at club level, but his performance in Cyprus improved gradually over the past three seasons.

"Yeah, like you know and like you say it's been a long time since I've been part of the national team but the dream was always the same. The goal was always the same: to work even harder, to work smarter, to change many things for me to be able to come and represent my country again,” Singh said.

“So, like every other player, every other football player you want to be part of the national team setup and I'm just grateful that I got another opportunity to be here and for sure I will grab it with both hands because the opportunity came again. We will just continue to work and see after this."

Now in his third season in Cyprus, Singh scored nine goals in 26 league matches at AEL Limassol last season. 

In this new season, he has already scored a goal in four matches, last season, he was teammates with FC Copenhagen attacker Thapelo Maseko, who went on to have a great World Cup with Bafana. 

The 29-year-old says the Cypriot league has helped to transform him in the past three seasons.

"The league has helped me a lot, it's a very competitive league and you have lots of quality players. Lots of quality teams, so it's a good environment, a good place for me to be in. It was the best place for me to be at this moment to get myself back to the national team."
