Kane left Tottenham in August 2023 to pursue silverware with Bayern, and he has more than delivered on expectations. His debut season was prolific, producing 44 goals and 12 assists in 45 matches. He followed that with another remarkable campaign in 2024/25, scoring 41 times and providing 14 assists in 51 games.
Now 32, Kane has started the 2025/26 season in devastating form. Across just seven appearances so far, including Bundesliga fixtures, a Champions League qualifier, the DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup, he has already scored 13 goals and set up four more.
That takes his Bayern record to 103 games, 98 goals and 30 assists, a return that underlines his world-class consistency.
Despite speculation linking him with a return to England to chase Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record, Matthaus has made it clear he believes Kane should stay in Munich.
"There is constant speculation that Kane might return to England next summer to break Alan Shearer's record," Matthaus wrote in his Sky Germany column.
"However, I would recommend that he stays at Bayern. He has never been better anywhere else, and here he has further raised his profile. I don't think the Shearer record is his motivation. He has already proven himself in the Premier League, so he should finish his career at Bayern."
Matthaus also pointed to the examples of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, insisting Kane has several more years at the top. "If he wants to earn more money later, he could move to Saudi Arabia," he added. "For now, he should continue at Bayern."
With Bayern competing on all fronts this season, Kane's relentless scoring run could yet bring the major European honours he has long been chasing.
