The 22-year-old midfielder, currently with Liverpool, was at the heart of everything, delivering what was widely described as a masterclass. Wirtz scored twice and assisted twice, underlining his attacking quality in a high-tempo encounter.
His first goal arrived just after the hour mark with a precise long-range strike from the edge of the box, before he sealed the win with a composed finish in the 85th minute.
Asked about his goals, Wirtz said: "In the first goal, I'd be lying if I said I meant it to go exactly there, but I'll take it. In the second goal, you can see that's exactly where I wanted the ball to go."
The performance will be particularly encouraging for Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann as preparations intensify for the upcoming World Cup.
Germany have been drawn in Group E alongside the Ecuador national football team, Ivory Coast national football team, and tournament debutants Curacao national football team.
Despite his international heroics, Wirtz's club campaign under Arne Slot has been inconsistent.
Since his big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen last off-season - worth up to 116.5 million pounds - he has struggled at times to adapt to the Premier League, contributing only six goals and eight assists in all competitions.
