Liverpool await fitness verdict on Gakpo, Isak and Szoboszlai for Brentford clash

Liverpool could welcome back Cody Gakpo, Alexander Isak and Dominik Szoboszlai for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Brentford, with all three players still in contention to return from injury.

The trio have missed Liverpool's last two matches after picking up injuries during the September and October international break. However, head coach Andoni Iraola has not ruled out their involvement at the Gtech Community Stadium.

"We have to wait and see. I think it's still very early, but the same way I said they are not available for the previous games, I leave the chance open this time," Iraola said.

Liverpool will assess the players during their final training session before deciding whether they are fit enough to feature against the Bees.

The match comes less than 72 hours after Liverpool's Champions League victory over LASK in Austria, leaving little time for recovery between fixtures.

Iraola acknowledged that the demanding schedule would force him to rotate his squad, with another European fixture against Villarreal following just three days after the Brentford game.

"In this period especially, when we are basically playing every three days - almost less than three days - you need more players" he said.

"That's why we changed the team a little bit yesterday. We will need to change again at the weekend, we will need to change again when we face Villarreal in another three days."

The Liverpool coach stressed that every member of his squad would have an important role to play as the team navigates a congested run of matches.

"We need everyone, we will need everyone in one moment or the other. Everyone has to be ready because we will need him probably," Iraola added.
