Leeds United sign Lille defender Gabriel Gudmundsson

Leeds United have announced the signing of Swedish international Gabriel Gudmundsson from French side Lille, becoming the Whites' fourth addition of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old left-back has signed a four-year deal that will keep him at Elland Road until 2029, subject to a work permit and international clearance.

Gudmundsson arrives from Ligue 1 outfit Lille, where he made nearly 150 appearances after joining Les Dogues in 2021. Last season, he featured 45 times across all competitions, including nine UEFA Champions League matches.

He played a pivotal role in Lille's European campaign, helping them finish seventh in the league phase and reach the Round of 16.

Notably, he played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Real Madrid and impressed in further outings against Atlético Madrid, Juventus, and Liverpool.

Equally comfortable operating down the wing or in central defence, Gudmundsson adds versatility and experience to Daniel Farke's squad.

Before his stint in France, he played for Dutch side FC Groningen and began his career at Halmstads BK in Sweden, where he scored 16 goals in 88 appearances.

On the international stage, Gudmundsson has earned 15 caps for Sweden, with his most recent appearance coming in a 2-0 win over Hungary in June.
