Lebo Mothiba looking for strong Bafana Bafana combination with Lyle Foster

French-based Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba has targeted a strong combination with Burnley striker Lyle Foster going to next year’s African Cup of Nations tournament.

Addressing a matchday-minus-one press conference ahead of Tuesday’s international friendly against Ivory Coast at Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Mothiba says Foster is showing some great potential.

Even at training, they are working a lot on their attacking partnership.

"He's a great player, he's very young, but it's not AFCON just yet. The coach is still testing players, looking for areas to improve, so we're going to keep that up," said Mothiba.

"But in any case, I do enjoy playing with him – even on the training ground."

Whilst Bafana have had indifferent results in recent international friendlies, failing to beat and score against lowly-ranked regional neighbours Namibia and Eswatini, in West Africa they remain well respected by the media for their giant-killing acts.

"We have good players, we have technically gifted players, so technically we're good, but we keep trying to improve in other areas of the game as well," he added.

"So, as you say, we took out Egypt [in 2019], so we can accomplish great things if we stay focussed and give it our all, we'll be able to achieve it – and we do have a lot of quality in our squad."
