LaLiga: Barcelona maintain perfect record, ten-man Madrid edge Villarreal

Top of the table Barcelona defeated Getafe 3-0 at Camp Nou, while Real Madrid beat Villarreal 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in Saturday's headline fixtures.

We take a look at all of Saturday's La Liga action which saw seven goals being scored and two red cards being dished out over three fixtures.

Ruthless Barca brush aside Getafe

Barca took an early lead through Anthony Gordon after the visitor's defence failed to stop his dribbles before unleashing a deflected shot from the edge of the box into the net in the second minute.

The home side continued probing for a second goal with Eric Garcia and Gavi seeing their efforts easily saved by Getafe goalkeeper David Soria before Gabriel Jesus dispossessed Zaid Romero before scoring the second goal at the half hour mark.

Getafe were the first team to threaten to score in the second half with left-back Johan Modica's long range effort scraping the crossbar in the 49th minute.

However, the Catalans regained their dominance again, enjoying close to 85 percent possession with Dani Olmo and Gabriel Jesus testing Soria in goal.

Frenchman Jules Kounde added a third in the 73rd minute with a neat close-range finish following a cross from Lamine Yamal, with the latter seeing his curling effort miss by inches.

The victory ensured Barcelona equal the club record of eight consecutive wins at the start of a season while Getafe remain 13th.

"I feel very good with the way people have welcomed me," said Gordon after scoring his first goal for the club.

"It's so good. My family and I are very happy. We've made a good start, but I can do more and more. Hopefully this will be the first of many goals."

Diomande strike sinks Yellow Submarine

Real Madrid had to dig deep to defeat a stubborn Villareal 1-0 despite having to play the last twenty minutes of the match with ten men after Vinicius Jr's sending off.

Los Blancos began brightly, with Arder Guler and Alex Carreras carving out a golden opportunity for Kylian Mbappe who failed to hit the target in the sixth minute.

In the 20th minute, Mbappe latched onto a long ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold but saw his effort well saved by Peter Gulacsi as the visitors held on for a goalless draw heading into half time.

The home side eventually took the lead via Ivorian forward Yan Diomande after a dashing run dribble and assist from captain Federico Valverde in the 63rd minute.

Madrid thought they had doubled their least five minutes later, however, goalscorer Vinicius Jr was found to have committed a serious offence in the build-up to the goal, cancelling his effort while also being sent off.

Villarreal's best chance fell to striker Georges Mikautadze but his late effort was easily gathered by Thibaut Courtois in the 87th minute.

"I'm happy. I've been waiting for that first goal for a long time," admitted Diomande after the match.

"I'm glad, both for myself and for the team. In that position, I think the only option was to control, turn, and shoot."

The result sees Madrid move into third spot while Villarreal remain tenth.

Romero late goals helps Atletico sink Alaves

Atletico Madrid defeated Deportivo Alaves 2-1 at the Estadio de Mendizorroza on Saturday evening to maintain second spot on the LaLiga table.

Both teams had a cautious approach to the start of the first half before Atletico left-back Alex Grimaldo drilled in a low shot after being set up by Jonathan David.

The home side were then handed a lifeline at the stroke of half-time after Robin Le Normand gave away a penalty, with Lucas Boye converting from the spot.

Alaves found themselves a man down at the hour mark after midfielder Angel Hidalgo was sent off for a reckless challenge on Argentine forward Julian Alvarez.

Both sides made a flurry of changes as they tried to find an elusive winner which eventually came through a powerful Cristian Romero header in the 87th minute to give the visitors the three points.
