Konrad Laimer commits future to Bayern Munich as versatile Austria star signs new deal

Konrad Laimer has ended months of speculation over his future by signing a new contract with Bayern Munich, extending his stay with the Bundesliga champions after lengthy negotiations.

The 29-year-old Austria international, who joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2023, has become one of the club's most dependable players thanks to his ability to fill multiple roles across the pitch. He has made 136 appearances for the Bavarian giants, winning two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup.

Laimer also impressed on the international stage, featuring at the World Cup as Austria reached the knockout rounds, while enjoying his most productive campaign in a Bayern shirt last season. Despite spending much of his time in defensive positions, he contributed three goals and 13 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

The extension follows protracted talks that were reportedly delayed by disagreements over salary. Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness publicly addressed the negotiations earlier this year, insisting the club would not break its wage structure, while reports in Germany suggest both parties eventually reached a compromise.

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl welcomed the agreement, describing Laimer as "the very definition of reliability at the highest level" and praising both his quality and character.

Sporting director Christoph Freund highlighted the Austrian's versatility, consistency and influence within the squad, calling him a role model who continually develops and never gives up.

Laimer said he never doubted his desire to remain in Munich.

"It's something very special for me to play in the FC Bayern jersey," he said. "I've often emphasised how happy I am in Munich and how much fun it is to play football with this team. I've felt that from day one.

"I can help the team in many different positions and want to continue giving everything for FC Bayern every single second. With this team, anything is possible and I'm already looking forward to the new season."

Bayern begin their 2026-27 Bundesliga campaign at home to VfB Stuttgart on August 28, with Laimer set to remain a key figure as the club targets further domestic and European success.
