Khabba Cup talent linked with Orlando Pirates

Golden Arrows legend Manqoba Mkhize’s tournament could produce future stars, with two emerging talents linked to Orlando Pirates.

The Khabba Cup has become the most trusted tournament in Durban and continues to attract scouts from all over South Africa. In 2022, Richards Bay FC found the player of the tournament Yamela Mbuthuma.

And Mkhize revealed on Ukhozi FM there are more success stories on the horizon.

"Last year, when you spoke to us Victor [Molefe}, we told you about Yamela Mbuthuma, tonight we can confirm that five players have been offered contracts [by PSL Clubs]”,  he said.

Although Mkhize would not confirm, SABC Sport has learned Orlando Pirates are one of those clubs. Their assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi was in attendance throughout the weekend and particularly impressed by star players Cebo Mchunu and Athini Maqokolo (both Bizana FC), with deals expected to be finalised in the next few days.

"One has signed for a Durban team, with four going to Gauteng. I can only say that teams will make their official announcement.”

Meanwhile, striker Lungelo Nguse completed a move to Lamontiville Golden Arrows. While Samkelo Fumaniso and Sphamandla Gwele will join JDR Stars, also from Bizana.
