Jurgen Klopp accepts blame as Germany suffer Greece Nations League defeat

"With all the changes I made, the defeat is of course on me," Klopp said after the match.

The Germany coach felt his side should still have avoided defeat against a Greece team that defended deep for long periods.

"It's obvious that we were not going to win this game by a big margin against such a deep-sitting opponent - but we shouldn't lose games like this one either," Klopp said.

Klopp was particularly unhappy with Germany's defending against Greece's long-ball approach.

"The Greeks basically only played long balls. We have to defend that better," he said.

The coach also acknowledged that his new-look squad is still developing an understanding on the pitch. Germany struggled to maintain their structure at times as the players adjusted to each other and Klopp's methods.

"We're a newly put-together team and we keep showing moments where we understand each other well - but it can also go the other way, as we saw today," he said. "We couldn't execute our plans today."

Klopp believes that improvement will come with more time on the training ground.

"Football needs training, football needs routines. We don't have enough of that yet," he said.

Despite the setback, Klopp insisted he was not concerned about the result in the early stages of his Germany tenure.

"I've lost many more games in my life than I wanted to. I can deal with it," he said. "After games like this, you just have to draw conclusions and get better."

The former Liverpool manager added: "I prefer a bad start to a bad ending" as Germany continue to develop their new approach.

Germany will look to respond when they face Serbia on Thursday at the Allianz Arena in Munich in the UEFA Nations League.
