Jules Kounde shoots down injury fears after Barcelona win

Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has put rumours about missing the Spanish Super Cup to rest after limping off late in his team's 2-0 La Liga win over Villarreal on Sunday night.

Kounde was substituted with about ten minutes remaining at Estadio de la Ceramica, fuelling reports that he could be sidelined for the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia in January.

But the French international took to social media with a light-hearted response to the speculation, sharing an image that suggested he was "fine" and dismissing claims of a serious problem.

After the match, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick offered reassurance about Kounde's condition. "I think Kounde is fine," Flick said. "He was sick for the last three or four days and didn't arrive at the match in the best shape he should have been. I don't think what happened today is anything serious."

Flick also stressed the importance of finishing the year on a high note. "The most important thing is to get the points," he said after Barcelona's victory, which left them top of La Liga heading into the festive break.

Barcelona now have a short winter pause before returning to action on January 3 against Espanyol, with the Spanish Super Cup set to follow.

Kounde's likely rest over the holidays should help him recover, giving Barcelona a boost as they prepare for a busy start to 2026.
