Jose Mourinho reveals advice that helped keep Vinicius Junior at Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has revealed the advice he gave Vinicius Junior during the Brazilian forward's uncertainty over his Real Madrid future.

Vinicius ended months of speculation on August 6 by signing a new six-year contract with the Spanish giants, keeping him at the club until 2032.

The 26-year-old had entered the final year of his previous deal, leaving open the possibility of a free transfer at the end of the upcoming season. Premier League champions Arsenal were alerted to his situation as contract talks continued.

Mourinho, who returned to Real for a second spell in June, has now explained how he spoke to Vinicius, while playing down his own influence on the decision.

"Obviously I spoke to him, but Vinicius has fallen in love with Real Madrid," Mourinho said.

"The only thing I told him was: 'Vini, where do you want to go? You've only been in Brazil and you only know Real Madrid. You only understand Real Madrid when you leave. When you leave, that's when you realise what Real Madrid is. Don't leave. It's not worth it.'"

Mourinho also believes Vinicius was encouraged by the direction of the team and the development of the squad.

"I think what he has felt in terms of the group's growth, the way we've been working and developing, has given him a very important feeling," he added.

"Vinicius is another machine - it's a pleasure to watch him work. We have a lot of quality."
