Jordan Henderson 'very excited to get going' after completing move to Chelsea

Jordan Henderson says he is 'very excited to get going' after sealing a move to Chelsea on a free transfer, following his exit from Brentford.

The veteran midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Blues after fellow English Premier League London outfit Brentford by mutual consent.

The 36-year-old will work under new Chelsea new manager Xabi Alonso, who was keen to add experience to his squad as they look to improve on last season's 10th-place finish.

"Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn't turn down,' Henderson said.

"I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction.

"For me, it's about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I'm very excited to get going."

Henderson captained Liverpool to the Premier League title in the 2019-20 season and also won the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup twice, the Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup in his time at Anfield.

The England international moved to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq in 2023 before returning to Europe to join Ajax Amsterdam in 2024.

After one season in the Netherlands, he then joined Brentford ahead of the 2025-26 campaign and made 32 top-flight appearances before being selected in the England squad for the FIFA World Cup, where he did not make any appearances as they reached the semifinals.
