Jeremy Jacquet completes dream Liverpool move from Rennes

Jeremy Jacquet completes dream Liverpool move from Rennes

Liverpool have officially unveiled French defender Jeremy Jacquet after completing his long-awaited move from Rennes ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

The transfer was agreed earlier this year, with Liverpool paying 64 million euros, plus a further six million euros in performance-related add-ons, to secure one of France's brightest young defenders.

The club identified the 20-year-old as a key addition as they looked to strengthen their back line for the new campaign.

Jacquet arrived at Anfield following the departure of fellow French centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who left the club after his contract expired before joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The young defender progressed through Rennes' academy before making his senior breakthrough during the 2023/24 season. A successful loan spell at Clermont helped accelerate his development, and he returned to establish himself as a regular in Rennes' first team. His performances quickly earned him a reputation as one of the most promising young central defenders in French football.

Jacquet made 21 appearances last season before his campaign was cut short in February by a shoulder injury that required surgery. Liverpool will now hope he can return to full fitness and become an important part of the squad under new manager Andoni Iraola.

Speaking for the first time as a Liverpool player, Jacquet said joining the club was the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

"I'm very happy. When I see the facilities, I can picture myself there. I feel good here and I'm really excited to get started," he said.

The Frenchman added: "For me, it's a big dream, it's a big club. A club like Liverpool is a huge dream for me."

Jacquet has yet to be assigned his squad number, but he is expected to compete for a regular place in Iraola's defence as Liverpool prepare for the new season.

Liverpool have also strengthened their squad by signing Spanish winger Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna as they continue to reshape the team ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
