Frimpong officially joined Liverpool on May 30 after activating a 35 million euros release clause in his Bayer Leverkusen contract. He now reunites with Wirtz, whose blockbuster move to Anfield was confirmed shortly after for a club-record 116 million pounds, including 16 million pounds in performance-related add-ons.
Speaking to ESPN NL, Frimpong expressed his excitement about the move and the prospect of linking up with familiar faces.
"I'm really excited. I'm really looking forward to playing for Liverpool," Frimpong said. "And of course, Florian Wirtz - my good friend - he's coming too. That makes it extra fun. I also already know some guys from the national team, so yeah, I'm really up for it. I can't wait for it to start."
The 24-year-old was ranked No. 8 among full-backs in the ESPN FC 100 and was widely regarded as one of the Bundesliga's most dynamic attacking defenders last season under Xabi Alonso. His arrival comes as Liverpool prepare for a new era under head coach Arne Slot and adjust to life without Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has joined Real Madrid.
Frimpong confirmed that Slot played a pivotal role in convincing him to make the switch.
"When I first spoke to him, I immediately noticed how interested he was," he said. "He told me he really wanted me at Liverpool and that I'd fit well into the team. When you hear that - from the manager of a club like Liverpool - that's an honor. How could I say no?"
Both Frimpong and Wirtz are expected to be key figures in Slot's rebuild as the Reds aim to challenge for a third Premier League title in 2025-26. The duo could make their competitive debuts when Liverpool host Bournemouth on the opening weekend of the new season.
