Jamal Musiala opens up on special connection with Florian Wirtz

The growing connection between Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz has become one of Germany's most promising attacking developments at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Musiala, speaking to Bild and Sport Bild, highlighted how naturally he links with the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker as Germany's young creative core continues to take shape.

"I think Flo and I play really well together," he said. "It's just great fun to have that relaxed atmosphere and freedom on the pitch. We can even swap positions from time to time."

The 23-year-old stressed that their understanding extends beyond just one combination, pointing to the broader fluidity of Germany's attacking unit.

"That also goes for Kai Havertz, Leroy Sané, Felix Nmecha and Pavlovic," Musiala added. "No matter what position I play, I can combine with anyone."

Germany's forward line has started to click early in the tournament, with two wins from two matches - a 7-1 win over Curaçao followed by a 2-1 victory against Ivory Coast - securing top spot in Group E and passage to the knockout rounds. Musiala and Wirtz have both started each game, contributing to a combined goal involvement while operating behind Kai Havertz.

Yet despite the strong start, Musiala believes there is still another level to reach.

"We want to show what we're capable of in this tournament," he said. "I push myself every day for that."

His perspective is shaped by a challenging period last season after recovering from a serious lower-leg fracture sustained at the 2025 Club World Cup. The Bayern midfielder says patience remains key as he rebuilds consistency.

"I know that, especially after my injury, I need to be patient," he said. "But I also know that I have the quality to achieve the high goals I've set myself one day."
