'I'm in great shape' - Harry Kane sets sights on Ronaldo's goalscoring record

England striker Harry Kane has admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo's international goalscoring record could be within reach if he continues playing at the highest level.

Kane scored twice in England's 3-0 win over the Czech Republic at Wembley, taking his international tally to 91 goals. The match also marked his 125th England appearance, bringing him level with former goalkeeper Peter Shilton for the most caps by an England men's player.

Ronaldo currently leads the all-time international scoring charts with 146 goals for Portugal, but Kane has no plans to walk away from international football soon.

"We'll see how far we can get," Kane said. "It's an awful long way away right now, but who knows? I'm in great shape."

The Bayern Munich striker believes his career can continue well into his late 30s if he maintains his fitness and form.

"I've said before that some of the players who I've played with went into their late 30s and are still at the highest level and even 40s now," he said.

"It's season by season with me. As long as I feel like I can help the team, I'll be around."

England manager Thomas Tuchel praised Kane after another landmark night for the captain.

"Amazing, he deserves the stage, he deserves the praise," Tuchel said.

Kane made his England debut in 2015, scoring just 79 seconds after coming on against Lithuania. Eleven years later, he has established himself as the country's record goalscorer and one of the most experienced players in the squad.

The 33-year-old believes his success has been built on a combination of ability, determination and self-belief.

"I always had a lot of self-belief," Kane said. "I was always willing to maybe do more than others and just push myself."

"I combined my talent that I had with a lot of hard work and self-belief and a lot of dedication."

Kane is also enjoying another impressive spell at Bayern after leaving Tottenham. He recently became the fastest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, achieving the milestone in just 98 league appearances.

Despite his achievements, Kane insists he is still looking for ways to improve.

"I'm coming off the back of my best season ever as a player and I've started this season as good as I did last season," he said.

"I'm in a good place and for me right now, it's just pushing myself and seeing how far I can get."

Kane's immediate target will be continuing his goalscoring form for both Bayern and England. But with 91 international goals already behind him, the prospect of closing the gap on Ronaldo is no longer something he is willing to completely dismiss.

"I'm not going to stop," Kane added. "I'm going to keep pushing and see where it takes me."
