The 23-year-old goalkeeper only learned of his selection during Germany's final training session but was delighted to be given the opportunity by head coach Jurgen Klopp.
"I found out today in training and was of course very happy," Urbig said at his pre-match press conference.
"I'm delighted to have the opportunity to walk out onto the pitch in my stadium tomorrow."
Urbig has remained focused despite the competition for the No.1 goalkeeper position at Bayern, where he has played alongside Germany legend Manuel Neuer.
The youngster insists he is not distracted by discussions over his long-term prospects.
"This whole number one thing isn't something I'm concerned with," Urbig said. "My focus is on reaching my limit every day and pushing beyond it.
"Everything else will fall into place over time. I've been given a lot of confidence at FC Bayern. I've been given the confidence here."
Urbig is now concentrating solely on his first appearance for Germany and helping Klopp secure his first victory with the national team.
"I'll make my debut tomorrow. Everything else is something for the future. I'm living in the here and now," he said.
The match against Serbia will give Urbig the chance to make his first senior international appearance in front of Bayern supporters at the Allianz Arena.
"It's very special. I will do everything I can to ensure that we, as a team, get our first win under Jurgen Klopp," Urbig added.
Germany face Serbia in Munich on Thursday in the UEFA Nations League, while Bayern's next Bundesliga fixture is away to Augsburg at the WWK Arena on Saturday, October 10.
