'He understands each players needs' - Suarez hails Hansi Flick after Barcelona success

Luis Suarez believes Hansi Flick's Barcelona have continued to prove their critics wrong by maintaining their intensity, attacking style and winning mentality under the German manager.

Flick took charge at Barcelona in 2024 and quickly transformed the club's fortunes, building a team based on high pressing, aggressive defending and a relentless approach in every match.

Despite repeated doubts that the style would be difficult to sustain, Suarez said the Catalan giants had repeatedly shown their ability to deliver.

Speaking about modern strikers and players such as Julian Alvarez, the former Barcelona forward was also asked about Flick's impact at the club. The Uruguayan was full of praise for the team's consistency.

"They've been impressive. Every year people seem to say the same thing: that they won't be able to maintain the intensity, that they can't keep pressing so high, that such a high defensive line will eventually cost them. And yet they just keep doing it," Suarez said.

The striker, who enjoyed a successful spell at Barcelona before leaving the club in 2020, highlighted how Flick had created a clear identity that the players continued to follow.

"They've been playing with the same philosophy, largely the same players and the same demanding style for a long time now, and the team continues to respond," he added.

Suarez also praised Flick's man-management skills, explaining that the German coach's communication with his squad had been a key part of Barcelona's success.

"Flick also seems like a manager who is very close to his players. He speaks honestly and tells them the truth. If a player isn't going to play, he explains why and gives them his reasons. For a footballer, that's incredibly important."

The former striker, who previously worked with top managers including Luis Enrique at Barcelona and Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, believes Flick understands both individual players and the needs of the team.

"He's a coach who understands what each player needs and also what the group needs. At a club like Barcelona, that's especially valuable," Suarez said.

Since arriving at the club, Flick has rebuilt Barcelona into one of Europe's strongest sides. Under his leadership, the team secured major domestic success, including back-to-back La Liga titles in the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, a Copa del Rey triumph and two Supercopa de Espana victories.

His first campaign ended with a domestic treble, as Barcelona lifted La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa, restoring confidence and belief around the club.
