'He is a top manager' - Enzo Fernandez excited to reunite with Maresca at Man City

The Argentina midfielder signed a five-year contract with City on Tuesday, bringing an end to a busy few days as he completed his move to the Etihad Stadium.

Fernandez previously worked with Maresca at Chelsea, where they enjoyed success together by winning the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup.

The midfielder believes Maresca played an important role in bringing him to Manchester and is excited about their reunion.

"He is a top manager, honestly," Fernandez said.

"I had him at my previous club. They were incredible moments. I learned so much with him.

"He's very similar to Latin people, very passionate. So, for me, it's a pleasure to work with him."

Fernandez admitted the move was not straightforward but revealed that both he and Maresca were determined to make it happen.

"To be honest, we were both very eager for it to happen, because it wasn't easy for me to be here today," he said.

"But I know he also made a big effort, speaking to the club, and I'm grateful that he did that.

"It was a long few days, but in the end I'm here and I'm very happy to be joining this club."

Fernandez also spoke with pride about becoming the latest Argentine to represent City.

The midfielder follows in the footsteps of club legends including Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Pablo Zabaleta, Julian Alvarez and Nicolas Otamendi.

"Great Argentine players have come through here and made history, like Juli and Ota and the ones you mentioned," Fernandez said.

"Manchester City, not only in Argentina but around the world, are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"So for me it's a privilege to be here and give 100% every day, to take the club as high as possible."

Fernandez will also reunite with another familiar face in Willy Caballero, who returned to City this summer as part of Maresca's coaching staff.

Caballero and Fernandez remained in contact throughout the transfer process, with the former City goalkeeper regularly checking on whether the move would go through.

"I spoke with Willy many times," Fernandez said. "I have a great relationship with him. He was always sending me messages, asking me whether the move was happening and whether I was coming.

"I'm very happy to be here and to be with them again."

Fernandez now turns his attention to starting the next chapter of his career at City, with Maresca hoping his arrival can add quality and experience to his new-look squad.

City's next match is against Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
