Harry Kane explains how Barcelona move has boosted Anthony Gordon’s confidence

Kane left Tottenham for Bayern in 2023 and has since continued to thrive at one of Europe's biggest clubs, making him well placed to understand how a major move can change a player's mindset.

The England captain feels Gordon has experienced something similar since leaving Newcastle for Barcelona in a 69 million pound deal before the World Cup.

"I think sometimes going to a big club like that gives you more self-belief, more confidence," Kane said.

"You feel like you belong on the biggest stage and I think he's taken that into his England performances."

Gordon has certainly looked increasingly confident during the current international break, scoring in Tuesday's 2-0 Nations League win over Czechia after also finding the net against Spain.

The 25-year-old now has four goals in 25 England appearances and has scored in three consecutive internationals, while his pace and direct running have made him one of Thomas Tuchel's most prominent attacking threats.

Kane believes Gordon's improvement is not simply reflected in his goals but also in the way he has approached games.

"He was outstanding against Spain on Saturday, again today he was the difference maker," Kane said.

"He was always looking to be direct and be the one to get us ahead and a great finish from him as well."

Gordon's latest goal was created by another player who has recently made a high-profile club move, with Trent Alexander-Arnold supplying an excellent cross on his return to the England team.

The defender left Liverpool for Real Madrid in 2025 and made his first start under Tuchel against Czechia after being out of the international picture since June that year.

Kane also praised Alexander-Arnold's performance, but Gordon's development was the main focus of his comments as he highlighted the potential impact of playing for one of Europe's biggest clubs.

"He's an important player for us right now," Kane said.

Gordon joined Barcelona after several seasons at Newcastle, where he developed into an England international and an important figure for the Premier League club.

His early impact for his new club has now been followed by an impressive run with England, giving Kane reason to believe the move has helped bring out another side of the winger's game.

The England captain scored England's second goal in Prague to take his international tally to 87, but Gordon's emergence remains another positive for Tuchel as the winger continues to settle into life at Barcelona.
