Hansi Flick's Barcelona eye two historic milestones against Getafe

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is closing in on a historic achievement as his team prepare to host Getafe in La Liga on Saturday.

Flick's side have won all seven of their opening league matches and will equal Barcelona's best-ever start to a La Liga season if they claim an eighth consecutive victory.

The Catalans have also opened up a seven-point lead over Real Madrid, scoring 31 goals in seven games to underline their attacking strength.

Barcelona have already beaten Racing Santander 7-0, while Elche, Rayo Vallecano and Valencia have each suffered 5-0 defeats. Levante lost 4-0 and Sevilla were beaten 3-0.

Their 31 goals also surpass the previous club record of 29 goals scored in the opening seven league matches, set in the 1950-51 season.

Barcelona's previous record of eight consecutive wins at the start of a La Liga campaign was achieved by Gerardo Martino's team in 2013-14. However, Atletico Madrid eventually won the title that season, finishing ahead of Barcelona after a decisive draw at Camp Nou on the final day.

The Spanish record for consecutive victories at the beginning of a league season belongs to Real Madrid, who won their first nine matches in 1968-69.

Flick's team have another milestone within reach at home. Victory over Getafe would extend Barcelona's winning run at Camp Nou to 23 matches, moving them closer to Real Madrid's record of 24 consecutive home victories, achieved across the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons.

Getafe have yet to win an away match against Barcelona, giving the hosts further encouragement as they look to maintain their perfect league record.
