Golden Arrows coach credits Ryan Moon tactical surprise

Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi put their 1-0 win over rivals Richards Bay down to the surprise inclusion of striker Ryan Moon.

Moon was named in the starting line-up for the first time in the DStv Premiership since December and scored the only goal of the game.

Vilakazi believes the opposition struggled to cope.

"I think one thing that worked for us on the day was the surprise that we came with. Because they were expecting us to play with one striker but we introduced two strikers in today's game and we played 4-4-2 in the first half. I'm happy because we benefitted something from it when Ryan managed to score after not playing for such a long time. So, I think he did very well for the team," he said.

Moon took the pressure off leading goal scorer Knox Mutizwa, who was voted Man of the Match, but did squander a number of clear-cut chances.

"He's a striker so obviously he's not going to score at all times. I think I mustn't be too harsh on him because when he was scoring for us we were happy. We just need to motivate him in making sure that he takes the chances that are created at that particular time. But he's been doing very well for us," he added.

The win pushed Arrows into the Top 8 and above Richards Bay.

"Overall performance was good from our side. Yes, we didn't play the normal game that we always play as Golden Arrows. I think at this time of the season, you need to make sure that you grind for results, to grab that spot in the top 8 which is what we did today," Vilakazi concluded.
