Frenkie de Jong set for Barcelona training return ahead of Getafe clash

Barcelona will resume training on Monday with Frenkie de Jong providing a major boost as Hansi Flick begins preparations for Saturday's La Liga meeting with Getafe.

The Catalan club have made a perfect start to the 2026-27 season, winning all eight of their matches in La Liga and the Champions League. Their seven league victories have put them top of the table with a five-point advantage.

The September international break has interrupted that impressive run, with as many as 17 Barcelona players called up by their national teams.

While the internationals have been away, Flick and the players who remained in Barcelona have had a short break after completing several training sessions at the club's facilities.

That rest period now comes to an end, with Flick and his available players returning to the Ciutat Esportiva on Monday to begin preparations for the visit of Getafe to the Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday.

The biggest development will be the return of De Jong to group training.

The Netherlands midfielder has not played for Barcelona this season after suffering an injury during the World Cup. He has already returned to ball work and is now expected to train alongside the available squad members.

Alejandro Balde, Brian Farinas, Gavi, Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin and Gabriel Jesus are also expected to be involved in Monday's session.

More players will return over the next few days, including those who were not selected by their countries and others who have been recovering from minor physical problems.

However, Barcelona will not have their full squad together until Thursday, when the international players are expected back.

That leaves Flick with only two full training days to prepare his team for Getafe, the first of a demanding run of fixtures facing Barcelona this month.
