Former SA U23 international Mzunani Mgwigwi equips himself as he leads Bush Bucks’ revival

Former Bush Bucks and South African U23 international Mzunani “Mara” Mgwigwi continues to play a significant role in producing talent in the Eastern Cape by equipping himself in performance analysis and technical scouting.

Mgwigwi was recently part of the SM Sports Performance Analysis and Technical Scouting symposium in Gqeberha.

Mgwigwi, who also coaches Bush Bucks in the ABC Motsepe League, says these programmes are very important for a rural province like the Eastern Cape.

"This one, it's been long overdue, one of its kind. Exposure is a very good thing one has got to expose himself to a situation where one can learn. We are in a situation where these kinds of opportunities where one has got to impower himself or themselves,” Mgwigwi said.

“Now, if Sinesipho and Tera were able to get these opportunity, why not? We are so grateful for this opportunity. We are empowered today, we've learnt a lot, we've been exposed.

“We have interacted with the greats, we'll never be the same. We'll do things differently for the betterment of our young ones in terms of our coaching, in terms of our knowledge we'll do things better. So, this exercise, it was a very, very good exercise."

As Bafana Bafana analyst and Sekhukhune United Head of Performance Analysis and Technical Scouting Sinesipho Mali, as well as his partner and Kaizer Chiefs Head of Scouting and Recruitment Tera Maliwa, take their next Symposium to Durban in KwaZulu-Natal on the 20th and 21st of next month, Mgwigwi (45) is encouraged by how these programmes have got a strong element of rural development.

"This one is in two folds you know I always preach about black child empowerment and now the guys are from the rurals hey, they are black people. So, we've got to find a way of supporting one another,” he added.

“Yes, they've done this event but at the very same time, we had to rally behind them. Out of this exercise we have been empowered ourselves. So, it is very, very important that we work collectively in the first place. Those who have been able to educate us, must educate us. Those who are able to support must support."
