Federico Valverde smashes assist record at Real Madrid

Federico Valverde has reached a new creative high after breaking his personal assist record in a single season for Real Madrid.

The midfielder delivered two decisive passes in Madrid's recent win over Benfica, setting up goals for Aurelien Tchouameni and Vinicius Junior. Those assists took Valverde to nine for the campaign, already surpassing his previous best of six, recorded during the 2022-23 season.

Of his nine assists this term, five have come in La Liga and four in the Champions League, underlining his importance across both domestic and European competitions. Known primarily for his energy, tactical intelligence and long-range shooting, Valverde has added greater creativity to his game this season, becoming a consistent provider from midfield.

He has combined with seven different team-mates so far. Vinicius Junior has benefited the most, scoring three times from Valverde's passes - against Benfica, Osasuna and Levante. Tchouameni also scored from his delivery against Benfica, while Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham were on the end of his assists against Monaco. Rodrygo converted one against Atletico, and Gonzalo and Fran Garcia both finished chances created by the Uruguayan against Betis.

In total, Valverde now has 31 assists for Real Madrid, a remarkable return for a player who operates largely from central midfield.

Madrid will look to continue their momentum when they host Getafe CF in La Liga on Monday at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. With Valverde in this kind of creative form, Alvaro Arbeloa's side will be confident of maintaining their push at the top of the table.
