Ethan Brooks working his way back to Bafana

Ethan Brooks working his way back to Bafana

Ethan Brooks says he expects to be back in the Bafana fold soon after overcoming the injury that saw him excluded from the national team last season.

The 22-year-old was initially called up to the South African national team following his superb performances for former team TS Galaxy.

He made 11 appearances for Bafana but has been missing from the side since March 2022.

Brooks was a part of the recent COSAFA Cup team and has proved his fitness in the DStv Premiership this season, playing all five league matches for Usuthu.

The player said on iDiski Times: "I'm not sure if you were aware last season, I was injured.

"That was also one of the reasons [I didn't start well at AmaZulu] and in the end I didn™t get picked for the Bafana Bafana squad.

"So it is up to me to get back into the Bafana team again."

South Africa struggled to a 0-0 draw with Namibia over the weekend without Brooks in the side and a need for some midfield solidity could hasten his return to the squad.

Brooks' last game for Bafana was a 5-0 defeat to France.

The player concluded: "It is definitely one of the goals for me [to play at CAF World Cup qualifiers and AFCON finals].

"Like you said, I have started very well this season and I'm working very hard to get back to where I was. So it is one of the goals that I really want to achieve."
