Eric Garcia targets Super Cup glory to 'fire up' Barcelona winning momentum in 2026

Eric Garcia has said winning the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday would give Barcelona a major confidence lift as they prepared for the second half of the 2025-26 season.

Barcelona are building towards the final in Jeddah, with the decisive match set for Sunday, and Garcia has made it clear how important the trophy could be for Hansi Flick's side. The club won the Super Cup last season and used it as a platform to go on and claim both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

"We're going for the Super Cup now, for the title," Garcia said. "For us, winning the Super Cup would mean what it meant last year. It's January, we're getting closer every day, and that would give us extra confidence."

The defender pointed to the timing of the final as crucial, with a demanding run of fixtures ahead once Barcelona return to domestic action.

"We have a very tight schedule coming up," he said. "Coming back with the title gives you a real boost of motivation."

Garcia also spoke about his own season, having been asked to fill several roles across the defence.

"I'm playing in many different positions and they all have their challenges," he said. "But I like them all and I feel comfortable in all of them."

He also praised goalkeeper Joan Garcia, highlighting his influence and shot-stopping ability.

"Having him as my goalkeeper, and him being my friend, is really great," Garcia added. "The saves he makes even surprise us."

Barcelona will face Real Madrid in Sunday's Super Cup final after Los Blancos beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 on Thursday night. After the final, Flick's side are set to return home for a Copa del Rey tie away to Racing on 15 January.
