Dominik Szoboszlai compared to Lionel Messi after top display for Hungary

Dominik Szoboszlai's Hungary team-mate Denes Dibusz compared the Liverpool midfielder to Lionel Messi after his heroics against Montenegro.

In a crucial Euro 2024 qualifier, Szoboszlai played a pivotal role in Hungary's 3-1 victory over Montenegro, securing their place in the upcoming tournament.

After initially falling behind, Szoboszlai showcased his brilliance by equalising midway through the second half with a mesmerising solo effort, weaving through defenders before placing the ball into the far corner.

Wearing the captain's armband, the 23-year-old Liverpool man continued his heroics by doubling his tally just two minutes later. Charging up the pitch and combining with striker Martin Adam, Szoboszlai skillfully slotted the ball in at the near post.

A late goal from midfielder Adam Nagy sealed the 3-1 victory, leading to jubilant celebrations in the Puskas Arena.

Szoboszlai's leadership qualities were on full display during the match, and goalkeeper Denes Dibusz paid the ultimate compliment to the midfielder, likening his performance to that of Lionel Messi.

The celebration included Szoboszlai sharing the joy with fans in the arena and partaking in a shot of palinka as a tribute to reaching the major tournament.

"You have the same feeling about him as when Lionel Messi was at his best in Barcelona a few years ago," Dibusz told Hungarian outlet Index.

"When he made up his mind, he went down the field and scored.

"He is a player of an incredible level and a great leader, who is able to lead the team on the field and add something extra to his game that draws the others along, and is also effective.

"After the Bulgaria match, I think he was also a little frustrated that despite his chances, he didn't manage to score. I think you can be satisfied with your finishes and performance today."

This standout performance has not only solidified Hungary's place in Euro 2024 but has also elevated Szoboszlai to new heights on the international stage.
