Diallo demands top spot as Ivory Coast set sights on Gabon

Ivorian and Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo, who has set the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament alight, believes that his country is making a strong case to defend their title.

Tonight, Diallo will play his third and final group stage match in his first AFCON tournament with the Ivory Coast, as they take on Gabon at the Marrakech Stadium, with the primary focus on finishing top of Group B.

With two goals and two man-of-the-match awards, the 23year-old is happy with his showing currently.

This AFCON tournament has also attracted several Africans in the diaspora, including top international players from Europe with strong African roots, such as France and Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe.

This is something that excites AFCON stars like Diallo...

"It is really exciting to see they are watching the AFCON, but we aren't thinking about Mbappe or other players, we are thinking about winning this competition."

Diallo was unfortunate to miss out on the AFCON tournament on home soil two years ago, which also saw his nation winning their third continental title.

The Elephants skipper Franck Kessie also has some good things to say about the former Atalanta attacker.
