Confederation Cup final: USM Alger take advantage into second leg

USM Alger beat Tanzanian club Young Africans (Yanga) 2-1 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The victory gave the Algerian side an advantage heading into the return leg at home.

Yanga began the match energetically with strong support from their fans, but USM Alger gradually took control.

In the 32nd minute, Alger broke the deadlock with a superb header from Mahious.

Despite falling behind, Yanga remained determined and pushed forward in search of an equaliser. However, they couldn't convert their clear chances as Alger's defense held firm.

The first half ended with Alger leading 1-0. In the second half, Yanga started with renewed motivation but struggled to break through Alger's defense.

Alger, on the other hand, created scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise.

In the 82nd minute, Yanga managed to level the score through Fiston Mayele, giving hope to their fans.

However, just a minute later, Alger regained the lead, dampening Yanga's spirits. Alger successfully held on to their advantage, executing their game plan effectively.
