'Competition for places makes us push ourselves' - Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota feels that competition for places is inspiring Liverpool's forwards after the Reds concluded their pre-season fixtures with a 3-1 defeat of SV Darmstadt 98.

Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz joined Jota on the scoresheet at Deepdale on Monday evening as Jürgen Klopp's side made it 18 goals netted in five friendlies this summer.

With Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez also impressing during pre-season, Klopp heads into Sunday's Premier League opener at Chelsea with five in-form senior attackers to choose from - a wealth of options Jota believes can only benefit the club in 2023-24.

The Portugal international told Liverpoolfc.com: "I think inside competition is always good, [you] push yourself to the limit and it's good for us because we have the options.

"We will have loads of games and will need everyone, so it's very helpful that we can be like that."
