The 21-year-old winger joined the London clubs from Borussia Dortmund last summer but struggled for consistent game time after suffering a hamstring injury in February. He finished his debut season with 27 appearances before being ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
A full recovery over the European summer has allowed Gittens to return to pre-season in good condition, and he has already shown promising form.
Speaking about his fitness, Gittens said he is pleased with the progress he has made.
"I'm feeling, I would say, more confident now - in my body as well," he said.
"The injury that happened impacted my first season, but I'm feeling better every day. I'm trying to improve every day to be the best version of myself."
Gittens also praised new head coach Xabi Alonso, saying the Spaniard has made a positive impression on the squad during pre-season.
"He's been really positive towards us," Gittens said.
The winger added that he has enjoyed being back with his team-mates after the summer break.
"It's been good to be back with the boys. I'm really enjoying it right now and it's been really good to be part of this team."
Gittens has featured prominently during Chelsea's pre-season tour. He started against Tottenham on 1 August, playing 81 minutes and providing an assist for Estevao, before appearing again in the 1-0 defeat to Juventus on 5 August.
Chelsea will continue their preparations for the new campaign when they face AC Milan in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday, with Gittens hoping to build more momentum ahead of the Premier League season.
