Bayern Munich's title hopes suffer setback as Alphonso Davies gets injured

Bayern Munich's bid to defend their Bundesliga title has been dealt another blow after left-back Alphonso Davies was sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The injury occurred just nine minutes into their 3-1 defeat against Mainz on Saturday, with the Canadian clutching his left hamstring after pulling up unchallenged.

Reports suggest that Davies could miss the rest of the season. Bayern have now confirmed that he will be out of action "for the upcoming games".

Thomas Tuchel's men have struggled recently, going winless in four games, with three defeats under their belt in seven matches under him this term, the same number of defeats they suffered in 37 games under his predecessor Julian Nagelsmann. Their latest defeat came against Mainz, which handed Borussia Dortmund the lead in the Bundesliga title race.

Dortmund took full advantage of Bayern's latest slip-up, thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 to go one point clear at the summit, with only five games left in the season.

This setback for Bayern comes after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City in the quarter-finals earlier this month.

Bayern will have to regroup quickly if they hope to defend their title. They are currently one point behind Dortmund and will need to win their remaining games to have a chance of retaining their title.
