Bayern Munich's Christoph Freund pushes to secure Harry Kane's future in Germany

Bayern Munich's sporting director Christoph Freund has said he hopes Harry Kane will remain at the club well beyond his current deal, which runs until 2027.

Kane played a key role in Bayern's emphatic 5-1 Champions League victory over Cypriot champions Pafos on Tuesday, scoring twice, underlining once again why the German champions are keen to secure his long-term future.

"You see every three days how incredibly important he is for the team and how much joy and fun he gets from playing football," Freund said after the win.

"He is a key factor for Bayern Munich, and we are very happy to have him with us. We hope that continues for a long time."

Board member for sport Max Eberl echoed those views earlier in the week, suggesting that Kane's form and energy have made him an exceptional case when it comes to keeping experienced players beyond their expected peak.

"If you have a good mix, you can also keep older players with incredible quality for longer," Eberl said ahead of the trip to Cyprus. "Harry is showing that he doesn't seem old at all, it's like he's fallen into a fountain of youth with how active he is on the pitch.

"For us, a contract extension is absolutely imaginable."

The 32-year-old striker's current contract reportedly includes a release clause, allowing him to leave Bayern next year for 65 million euros.

With Kane's performances showing no signs of decline, Bayern are eager to avoid any uncertainty around their star forward's future.
