Bayern Munich's Christoph Freund addresses Serge Gnabry contract speculation

Bayern Munich's sporting director Christoph Freund has addressed the growing speculation over Serge Gnabry's future, saying the club are now considering a new deal for the winger.

Gnabry, 30, has impressed since the start of the season. He helped Bayern to a 3-1 win over Chelsea, has stepped up in Jamal Musiala's absence, scored goals and set up assists in recent matches, all while his contract runs out at the end of the season.

At Friday's press conference Freund said: "Things move very quickly. He was first labelled by the media as one to sell, now the talk is of a new deal."

He added: "It's fun watching him. The most important thing is that he stays fit. Then we know what we've got with him. He's always got excellent character, which is also hugely important."

Earlier reports confirm that, as of early September, Gnabry had said there were no contract extension talks yet. He stated he felt comfortable, loved the club and his teammates, but acknowledged that time is limited and the future remains open.

Bayern's board member for sport, Max Eberl, has hinted that contract extension discussions may soon begin, given Gnabry's strong form.

Gnabry's next chance to impress comes against Hoffenheim on Saturday.
