Bayano Moloto confident Polokwane City can hold their own

The newly appointed mentor has made an impressive start at Rise and Shine after succeeding long-serving coach Phuti Mohafe, winning his Betway Premiership opener away to Richards Bay and then pushing Mamelodi Sundowns close in the MTN8 quarterfinal defeat at the weekend.

With City preparing to face Stellenbosch in Seshego tonight, Moloto was asked for his overall assessment of the squad and whether he believes they can compete over the course of the campaign.

"I'm really happy with the boys and all of the new players that have joined us already suit the way we want to play. There are still areas and positions that need improvement and we are talking with management to see if we can fix a few things here and there."

The coach also added that he was easing attacking midfielder Giovanni Philander into his philosophy at the club, having arrived from Chippa United towards the end of pre-season.

Moloto did have a complaint about the current state of the pitches in the two games they’ve played so far, but he said he will not make any excuses. 

"The pitch has compromised the game because it's not suitable. Although we can't always blame the pitch and make excuses. We just have to go and review our performance and then the boys can build from there."
