Barcelona veteran Wojciech Szczesny set to stay as club backs experience

FC Barcelona are preparing to keep Wojciech Szczesny at the club beyond this season after being impressed by his performances and influence behind the scenes.

The experienced goalkeeper, who still has one year remaining on his current deal, arrived to provide stability and leadership - and has delivered on both fronts. Although the club hold an option to terminate his contract for a fee of around two million euros, the current mood internally is firmly in favour of keeping him.

Much of that confidence has come from his work on the training ground. Goalkeeping coach Jose Ramon de la Fuente has been particularly pleased with Szczesny's professionalism and consistency, with coaching staff believing his level has improved rather than declined over time.

Inside the dressing room, the Polish international has also made a strong impression. His calm personality and wealth of experience have helped him become a respected figure within the squad, strengthening his case to remain part of the club's plans moving forward.

However, the situation is not without complications. Any decision over the goalkeeping department will also involve Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who remains under contract until 2028 and is still central to the club's long-term thinking.

At the same time, Barcelona are assessing the market for further competition, with Alex Remiro emerging as a potential target.

Despite those factors, Szczesny's future looks increasingly secure. There is a clear understanding between player and club, and for now, Barcelona appear ready to rely on his experience for at least one more season.
