Barcelona hit by Raphinha injury as Carlo Ancelotti delivers huge praise

Carlo Ancelotti has praised Raphinha as "one of the best in the world" despite the Barcelona captain being ruled out with injury during the international break.

The 29-year-old winger suffered a right hamstring injury while on duty with Brazil on 26 March, with Barcelona confirming a day later that he is expected to be sidelined for around five weeks. The timing is far from ideal for Hansi Flick, whose side are entering a crucial phase of the season, including the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds.

Speaking after Brazil's latest fixture, Ancelotti underlined Raphinha's importance to the national team, placing him alongside Vinicius Junior among the game's elite.

"Madrid is Madrid, and Brazil is Brazil; with Raphinha and Vini we have two of the best in the world," he said.

Ancelotti also looked ahead to the 2026 World Cup, backing both players to deliver on the biggest stage.

"We need to ensure they bring all the quality they're currently showing to the team, but I know they will do well because of their character and personality. They will have a great World Cup," he added.

While Brazil have time to manage his recovery, Barcelona face an anxious wait. Raphinha is now expected to return only around a potential Champions League semi-final second leg, leaving a major gap in the squad during a defining period.

His absence goes beyond goals and assists. The Brazilian has been central to Barcelona's pressing system, leadership on the pitch, and attacking rhythm. Losing him now presents a serious challenge as Flick's side chase success on multiple fronts.
