Arthur Sales backs Mamelodi Sundowns quality in MC Alger test

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Arthur Sales is confident the team’s overall quality will shine through when they take on Algerian champions MC Alger in their CAF Champions League Group C encounter tonight.

The sides meet at Ali La Pointe Stadium in the Algerian capital, where the hosts will be desperate to respond after a 2-1 defeat to Al Hilal in their opener.

Sales believes the key to getting the job done in North Africa lies in maintaining consistency and building on the strong start they’ve already made to their campaign, which saw them beat Saint-Eloi Lupopo 3-1 at Loftus Stadium last weekend.

"Of course, it's tough games when you play in the Champions League, you need your preparations and more focus, but we are ready to play this game – the preparations have come on very well," said Sales.

"I think it's time now to show our team's quality against a good team [MC Alger], I think we'll play a nice game for the fans and everyone."

Sales admitted, however, the home support will only strengthen Alger’s determination to take all three points.

"It's difficult when you play in a full stadium, away from home, but you need to play against these teams. If you instil your game, their fans go away," he added.

"I think the most important thing is to dominate the game, and then we'll change the fans' [spirit] and you put them out, so then it becomes our game."
