Arne Slot to give Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister time to rest for next season

Mac Allister, who has been a consistent presence for the Reds, has amassed a staggering 4,495 minutes of football since last summer, including international duty. Of that total, 3,569 minutes have been logged in Liverpool colours during the current campaign.

The 25-year-old was absent from Liverpool's final home match of the season against Crystal Palace, and he did not travel to face his former club, Brighton, on Monday.

While the Reds' campaign winds down with little left to play for, Slot's move signals a forward-thinking approach as he begins to shape the squad in his vision.

Mac Allister, known for his energy and composure in midfield, is expected to play a central role in Slot's plans for the 2025/26 season.

The Argentine's workload has been among the heaviest in the squad, and with international commitments likely to continue, the decision to rest him now could prove crucial in ensuring his long-term fitness and form.

"Alexis will not play for us this season anymore," said Slot.

"He needs rest at this moment in time to recover completely and to be ready for the start of next season. That will be no problem for him to be back next season."
