The Reds are aiming to respond after their 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace at the weekend, which exposed weaknesses at the back.
Slot admitted that while Liverpool created opportunities at Selhurst Park, lapses in defensive organisation were costly. He was quick to point out that responsibility must be shared across the team, not pinned on individuals.
"Defending is a team responsibility," said Slot. "Last season we stopped opponents because all 11 players made it hard to create chances. Set-pieces were our strength, but this season we've given away too many goals from those situations. That must change if we're to compete at the top level."
Galatasaray are in form after seven consecutive wins in their domestic league, conceding only twice. Despite their heavy 5-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt in their opening league-phase match, Slot insisted the Turkish champions are a serious threat.
"They were unlucky in Germany," he said. "If they play that way again, they won't concede five goals. They are disciplined and their manager knows how to win. We must be fully prepared."
Liverpool have travelled with a 21-man squad, but Federico Chiesa has been ruled out through injury. His absence leaves Slot with a difficult balancing act between creativity and defensive stability.
The Dutchman repeatedly stressed the importance of set-pieces, warning that Galatasaray's physical power in dead-ball situations could punish any lapses.
"Modern football is heavily influenced by set-pieces," Slot explained. "Games are decided by corners, free-kicks and long throws. That's why we spend as much time on them as we do on tactical preparation."
Liverpool began their league-phase campaign with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid, sealed by a late set-piece goal. Slot has challenged his players to rediscover the defensive steel that underpinned their success last season while also making the most of attacking opportunities.
"Teams that win regularly become mentally stronger," he added. "We must show that same strength, making sure our initiative brings chances for us and not counter-attacks for the opposition."
With the atmosphere at RAMS Park expected to be fierce, Liverpool face a major early-season examination. Slot's message is clear: discipline, unity and sharpness will decide whether the Reds return from Istanbul with vital points.
