Antoine Semenyo confident Enzo Maresca can keep Man City winning

Guardiola ended his remarkable 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium in May after leading City to six Premier League titles and numerous other trophies. Maresca has now stepped into the role after previously spending a season as Guardiola's assistant.

Semenyo said Maresca already understands the club's culture and expects the transition to be smooth.

"I think the transition now with Maresca, he's obviously been with the City Group before, so he's not unfamiliar with them," Semenyo said during Ahmad Tea's 'Preparation is Everything' event in Hong Kong.

"Everyone just has to adjust. Everyone has to buy into what his philosophy is, and it's not far off what Pep was doing last season for us. I'm looking forward to the seasons to come with him, and everyone's enjoying it so far."

Maresca arrived at Manchester City after leaving Chelsea earlier this year. The Italian previously guided Chelsea to the FIFA Club World Cup title and also won promotion to the Premier League with Leicester City during his only season in charge.

He takes over a City side that finished second in the Premier League last season while also lifting both the FA Cup and League Cup.

For Semenyo, it is another managerial change in a short space of time. The Ghana international began last season at Bournemouth under Andoni Iraola before moving to City in January, where he worked under Guardiola. Iraola has since left Bournemouth to become Liverpool manager.

Despite the changes, Semenyo said adapting to different coaching styles is simply part of being a professional footballer.

"I have no choice but to adapt to the managers," he said.

"Obviously, Iraola was high pressing, everything was about work ethic.

"Coming to Pep, it was a lot more ball dominant and, to be fair with Maresca, it's quite similar. So I don't think there's too much change in that sense.

"We've got a team; everyone's adjusting as well as myself, and everyone's going to buy into it, and hopefully we can be successful off the back of that."

Semenyo joined Manchester City after an outstanding first half of the 2025-26 season with Bournemouth, scoring 10 goals in 21 appearances while also helping Ghana qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

The winger continued that impressive form after his move to City, scoring 11 goals in 27 matches across all competitions.

Looking back on his time under Guardiola, Semenyo credited the Spaniard with helping him improve his game.

"I would say it was amazing with him," Semenyo said.

"He's obviously known as one of the best managers in the world, and you can see why.

"Every day his meetings, his attention to detail, just like his player management, everything was amazing, and he helped me so much in those five, six months with my game."

Manchester City continue their pre-season preparations with a match against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, 9 August, at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in South Korea.
