Another Stellenbosch exit as Brendon Fourie joins Orlando Pirates setup

SABC Sport can reveal that Stellenbosch FC head of recruitment Brendon Fourie is set to join Orlando Pirates, following his farewell to the club over the weekend.

Fourie, one of the longest-serving members of the Stellenbosch technical structure, is understood to be heading into a key role within the Buccaneers’ football department. While the exact position has not been disclosed, his broad skill set – including recruitment, performance analysis and youth development – is expected to see him contribute across multiple areas of the club’s sporting structure.

His departure marks another significant loss for Stellenbosch, where his work behind the scenes has earned widespread praise from head coach Steve Barker and CEO Rob Benadie. Fourie has been instrumental in shaping the club’s recruitment model and talent identification pipeline in recent years.

The move also reinforces a growing trend of Pirates targeting top technical talent from the Winelands outfit.

In June 2024, highly rated analyst Devon O'Brien made a similar switch to the Soweto giants, followed later that year by head of performance, Ruan Rust.

Beyond the technical team, the two clubs have also developed a transfer pipeline involving players, with forward Andre de Jong among the most recent to make the move to Pirates.

Fourie’s exit suggests he was presented with an opportunity that was difficult to turn down, as Pirates continue to bolster their off-field structures in pursuit of sustained success.

For Stellenbosch, it represents another test of their ability to retain key personnel amid growing interest from bigger clubs.

Fourie now joins a club intent on building a comprehensive, high-performance environment both on and off the pitch.
