Orlando Pirates won’t take Venda Football Academy lightly - Jose Riveiro

Orlando Pirates have another Nedbank Cup fixture against a lower division side, but coach Jose Riveiro is confident the players will not drop their guard.

The Buccaneers host Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Venda Football Academy tomorrow night, having progressed to the round of 16 after earlier beating All Stars FC, who campaign in the same league.

Riveiro says they’ve done their homework.

"Since we found out that we are going to face Venda, we did our job in order to know as much as possible about our opponent. It's a competition so every game is difficult, you have to find a way to go through only in 90 minutes. We take this game seriously because we want to make it to the next round," he said.

The coach adds that VFA remain a credible opposition.

"These games are complicated, even though the team plays in the first division. It's a team with quality experienced players and an experienced coach. A lot of things can happen in 90 minutes that can complicate a football game. So, we are trying to work hard and continue with our momentum after our last game. We are looking for that continuity in the Nedbank Cup," he added.

Riveiro won’t run away from the fact that Pirates are favourites to go through, but insists cup games are unpredictable.

"The fact that you play your possibilities to go through in 90 minutes, who knows what's going to happen on Saturday? It's going to be a rainy day like it was in the previous encounter against All Stars which complicates the game," he concluded.
