AmaZulu add Mamelodi Sundowns duo to January wishlist

SABC Sport has established that AmaZulu have added the Mamelodi Sundowns duo of defender Sifiso Ngobeni and midfielder Sammy Seabi to their January wishlist.

Usuthu coach Pablo Franco Martin made it no secret his current squad needs some reinforcements, and the public broadcaster is led to believe Director of Football Pedro Dias is working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this a reality.

Sundowns could be swayed to letting the two players leave Chloorkop on loan this month, considering the pair have been starved of game time since the start of the 2023/24 season.

Ngobeni and Seabi have both only made two appearances since the campaign kicked off in August, despite Sundowns being involved in the CAF Champions League, MTN8, African Football League, Carling Knockout Cup, as well as the DStv Premiership.

This suggests they are struggling to break into the first team under coach Rulani Mokwena, which is a huge advantage for their suitors in Durban.

While Ngobeni has previously been on loan at neighbours SuperSport United after joining Downs from the now-defunct Bloemfontein Celtic, it’s Seabi who has a reputation as a journeyman.

The lanky midfielder signed for The Brazilians from Polokwane City in 2019, but has spent more time away in spells at Moroka Swallows, Chippa United, and Sekhukhune United.

It’s further understood that Usuthu’s interest and potential agreement to sign Ngobeni could depend on their talks with Orlando Pirates for another left-back in Bongani Sam, who is currently on loan at Swallows.

The Dube Birds are open to cutting short the 26-year-old's spell and returning him to his parent club amid their financial struggles, with The Buccaneers then set to decide his future for the rest of the season.
