Alexander Isak seals Liverpool win on Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth return

The match was a tense, low-scoring affair with little between the sides for long periods. Liverpool edged possession and expected goals.

Bournemouth showed solid defensive organisation and created a handful of dangerous moments, most notably in the first half and Alisson Becker's early saves proved decisive in keeping Liverpool in the game.

Iraola received a warm reception from the home crowd of the club he spent three successful seasons at before joining the Reds and shared a hug with Rose before kick-off.

Bournemouth started brightly and looked the more threatening early on. The standout moment came around the 19th minute when Marcus Tavernier drove down the left and cut the ball back for Evanilson, whose near-post flick was well saved by Alisson.

Liverpool grew into the contest as the match wore on, with Dominik Szoboszlai testing the host's goalkeeper from a couple of sharp free-kicks and Bradley Barcola forcing a save from Dorde Petrovic.

Cody Gakpo had a shot blocked, and Florian Wirtz sent one wide as the visitors improved their control without creating a big chance before the break.

The decisive moment arrived in the 58th minute when Gakpo produced an excellent run down the right wing to create space for a cross; Wirtz tried to shoot but ended up helping it on for Isak to finish into the bottom corner from close range.

Bournemouth spiced things up by bringing on Lewis Cook, David Brooks and Daniel Jebbison, who injected energy and briefly unsettled Liverpool.

The hosts continued to press but never really managed to produce a chance that properly tested Alisson in the second period.

Late on, substitute Louie Koumas had a clear chance to make it 2-0 to the visitors but shot straight at Petrovic.

Even though Liverpool remain unbeaten this season in the Premier League, this was just Iraola's second win as Liverpool manager, moving them on to nine points and up to sixth in the standings.

For Bournemouth, the defeat left them still searching for a first league win of the season.
